Genoa

The port of Genoa.

Il Bigo Represents ship masts. You can ride to the top which you can see at the top right side.

The Genoa Aquarium was worth a visit. Well done in the Main. Alison I wonder if these creatures are what you are looking for up your way. These actually come from the West Indies might be related!

Cinque Terre

Monterosso where we started our first days walk from.

On the walk. I think Lyric should be out there!

A market early morning in La Spezia. We bought apricots, cherries and apples.

The beautiful village of Vernazza. ( Enlarge it!)

Florence

Duomo in Florence Just a tiny section. It is massive.
It was a public holiday. St John the Baptist day

The famous Ponte Vecchio Bridge. The only bridge not touched during WW2 bombing.

The river Arno outside our hotel. Great fireworks that night for the holiday.

Milan

At the top of the Milan Duomo

View from the top

Bristol

Colourful houses on the skyline viewed from the SS Great Britain

On the deck of the SS Great Britain

Maybe some of my ancestors travelled on this from Ireland to Australia.

The same man ( Brunel ) that designed this also designed Clifton Suspension Bridge over the River Avon. Will have to wait until we get back to Bristol to view it.

Spot Lisa coming out of the Lloyds building. Taking her Dad for lunch for his first summer birthday. Isn't he spoilt!

Lloyds building is impressive.

Wonder if Jack or Nicholas or Lucy know what this boat is doing on top of the building?

Water features in Bristol help make the main centre of Bristol a pleasant place to walk around.

Wells and Glastonbury

Glastonbury. Known for the remains of an old Abbey which would have been about 800 feet long. Also for the pop concerts which bring thousands to the area next week.

Model of what the abbey would have been like.

Wells has a magnificient Catherdal.

Amazing well kept. Pity it was rubbish day!

York

A walk along the river Ouse in York.

The York Minster. The largest Medieval Church in Northern Europe.

Park and eating places close by.

A view of the York Minister from on top of the Roman Wall that surrounds some of the older part of York. About 2 to 3 miles is walkable and gives good views of the City.

Another gardern that looked to inviting for some of us. Cream Tea with large scones.

Waiting!

A photo while Justin persuade the hosts that we are not too late as they wanted to close.
Very persuasive is Justin. However when we left to get back on top of the Roman wall we found the gate locked. We managed to climb over or through the palings. Not bad seeing it was just under 2 metres tall.

Lakes District

Statues in Grizedale Park

Many lovely gardens in this area.

Ann Tyson's Cottage at Hawkshead. We stayed here for six days while in the Lakes.
Willam Wordsworth stayed here while at the local Grammar school.

Cool nights gave us an excuse for a fire and marshmellows.

Lake Grasmere

One of the many waterfalls in this region.

Castlerigg stone circle near Keswick. 4500 years old.

Keswick

Derwent Waters at the Keswick end.

The Lodore waterfall on the stream running into the Derwent.

We went to find a viewing spot above this waterfall to get a good look at Derwent waters. Justin thinks we are lost and Frances is running out of omph!

Lisa was in charge of this day and knows all about this zig zag path that we had to take up this hill and rock face.

Finally made it.

Hill Top
The house and inside is as Beatrix Potter left it.

and gardens.

The road that featured in the Tale of Samuel Whiskers

We had a quick ride on the Steam Train at the bottom of Lake Windermere.

Jack and Nicholas. What is the coal for?

Lucy. What is the man doing on top of the train?

On the way for more Cream Tea in Bowness on Windermere.

Admiring the view as we wait.

Worth the wait.

Views around Hawkshead.

Breakfast.

Yummy.

More views from Hawkshead.

Langdale Valley. Narrow roads and great scenery.

Jack this is ingredient number two for the stinkbomb. This is stinging nettle. So we are making a stinging, stinkbomb.

Two black lambs for Lucy and Nicholas. Can you sing the song to each other?

Pam I hope you like this Pin Oak. When we arrived here there were. plenty in flower but over the week they gradually faded. Also some other oaks with pink flowers which make impressive specimens.
