Athabasca Falls

Fortunately our rafting was below these falls. More glaciers and bear warnings.

Lake Louise

Another very expensive hotel. About 20000 visitors today.  School holidays, weekend and fine weather I guess.
Wild flowers along the road are prolific at times. The one here is called Indian Paintbrush.
Who's Frances looking for?

Now in Calgary and fly home tomorrow.

Maligne Canyon Walk

Very deep Glacier Canyon  just outside Jasper. Plenty of Elk around here. Some houses in town have a high wire fence to keep them out.

Unfortunately we did not get to cruise on the Maligne Lake because the road there is still closed by forrest fires

Columbia Icefield

We drove onto the Athabasca glacier  at thus icefield.  Along the way it snowed!

Did a raft down the Athabasca River and now in Jasper.

Magnificent Banff Springs Hotel.  700 bedrooms and up to 3000 a night.

At times seems a little Switz.

Whitefish to Banff

Stopped at Fort Steele historic town on the way. Now back in the Rockies. Hopefully you can see the colour and formations of the rockies.

Had a good sighting of a grizzly bear along the way.

Glacier National Park

Correction Previous blog should have read Prince of Wales Hotel.
Today we crossed the border into Montana USA. Here we crossed the continental divide via the Logan Pass. For some of this we changed to a red jammer bus. Large busses are not allowed on this route. Great scenery and some wild life. Deer, wild goats and a black bear.

The red jammer

Open roof but needed a coat as cool up at Logan Pass. Altitude 6600 ft
I have been feeling a bit if altitude sickness at times.

Black Bear and Huckleberry Pie

Yum The pie that is!

Head smashed in Buffalo jump

Hopefully you can  enlarge the photo to see how they killed buffalo many years ago. The name comes from someone who got to close to the falling buffaloes

Prince William Hotel

Now at Waterton Lakes National Park. Supposedly one of the most photographed buildings in Canada. Originally built for King Edward the 8th but he never went there?
The third photo is the view from the hotel and on the right side of the photo is Waterton where we are staying.
The last photo is taken from our balcony and we get a glimpse of the hotel between the trees.
